Advancing Gender Equity in Relationships with Dr. Femi Ogunjinmi

The advocacy of shared power in all aspects of social structures, including relationships, is a pressing topic, particularly among millennials and Gen Y singles and couples.

With this relevant issue, global relationship coach and expert Dr. Femi Ogunjinmi shares insights that contemporary marriages and affinities need.

Dr. Femi Ogunjinmi, or simply "Gfem," is a global relationship expert who has helped over 3 million singles and couples improve their journey of having long-term love affairs. Dr. Femi is a seasoned author of the book, "Revelations of Relationship: What You Don't Know About Finding True Love and Sustaining Relationship," and his latest written work, "How To Tell If Someone Truly Loves You."

For the majority of his life, Dr. Femi has lived both in the western and eastern hemispheres of the world. His transferring of residence has given him a better understanding of the dynamics in relationships. This wisdom includes the issues various people are facing as they search for true love and sustain meaningful connections with their partners.

As someone in advocacy for gender equity, Dr. Femi has encountered several questions on the difference between equality and equity in relationships. He has differentiated both by explaining first the concept of fair and equal treatment. In relationship equality, both husband and wife have proportionate influence in the marriage, be it in power relations, child-rearing, and mobilizing the family as one unit. It, however, makes the erroneous assumption that having the same portions of everything essential produces the same outcome.

It is in this aspect that relationship equity differs. It clings to the philosophy of treating one's partner the way you want to be treated. There is a fair distribution of tasks and influence based on individuals' strengths, weaknesses, skillset, experiences, constraints, and gifts. Gender is not the sole basis for giving respect to what one's partner can positively contribute to the relationship.

While many couples still struggle to work out this shift in perspective, Dr. Femi shares and mainstream this concept to aid people who are living together or raising their own family. Hopefully, they will find it useful in becoming a power couple, striking balance in power relations, and maximizing the family as the basic social unit. Relationship equity can be the key to addressing insecurities between partners and feelings of inferiorities that tend to affect how parents raise their children, showcase their love for them, and impart the appropriate values.

For the work he does and the advocacy he stands up for, Dr. Femi has been named in various platforms. This recognition includes being inducted into the World Book of Greatness. He has also appeared on major media sites such as The Word Network, USA Today, FOX News, Rewire, Stylecaster, among others. The most notable is when he spoke on the TEDx conference about "How To Tell If Someone Truly Loves You," which now has millions of views on Youtube.

As someone passionate about discussing gender inequity in a relationship, Dr. Femi has declared June 24th of every year as the "National Relationship Equity Day." With the help of his organization, he has founded this celebration dedicated to eradicating disparities in relationships. Part of its purpose is to promote the use of gifts, values, skill sets, and interests to pave the way in redefining gender roles in romantic affairs.

Dr. Femi is inviting his followers to participate in an online campaign in celebration of this year's National Relationship Equity Day.
