Well-acclaimed stylist Martino Cartier shares a story of having a big heart while being blessed in his career. Martino has not only established an empire of highly-rated salons. He has also founded the non-profit, Wigs & Wishes, and organized several philanthropic efforts that aim to help people in need.
Celebrity stylist and philanthropist, Martino Cartier, is a prominent figure in the beauty industry. He had humble beginnings that led him to many successes. A notable achievement is founding a salon in New Jersey that has over 50 seatings and is top-rated and highly regarded by customers and professionals, and was named the Top Salon in America by W magazine. Martino has gained high profile clientele, such as Weight Watchers' CEO Mindy Grossman. In 2015, he launched his own brand, Martino by Martino Cartier, that hit the top spot on the e-commerce website HSN as the top choice for hair products. In addition to selling on HSN.com, Martino does live airings at the HSN studio in Florida.
Martino has also been engaged through several charitable works to give back to the community. He founded Wigs & Wishes, a non-profit organization for philanthropic projects. Every year, it provides over 25,000 wigs to women and children battling cancer. The free wigs aim to give them a morale boost by making them look cancer-free. And Like a “make a wish” foundation, it grants the requests of children they have chosen as beneficiaries.
Martino has made aspirations come true, such as building a playground in a family’s backyard, meet and greets with celebrities, among others. They try to provide whatever may be lacking from the children’s needs and requests. Wigs & Wishes continues in its charitable projects with artist and producer Paula Abdul, who is currently the chairman of the Board of Directors.
This year, Martino has changed the lives of senior students and teachers at Washington Township High School, where he, himself, graduated. As an adopted child who spent time in the orphanage, he knew how difficult it was to be treated by classmates when he didn't have enough money for lunch. Thus, he thought of a way to help similarly situated children.
A donation event was organized early March to assist children whose parents have cancer. But when the pandemic struck and disrupted the school events planned for seniors this year, Martino and the school's superintendent agreed to help over 500 graduates of the school.
On May 15 and 16 of this year, student beneficiaries and their teachers were invited to the parking lot of Cartier's salon for the distribution of "swag bags" to over 500 graduates of the school. As suggested by Cartier's son, teachers were also given roses as the students' way of giving thanks for educating them. Each bag contains coupons for food, journals, flash drives, t-shirts, beauty items, and bowling games donated by local businesses who wanted to participate.
Cartier did not only organize the event but also donated a Martino by Martino Cartier Texturizing Pomade for each boy and a thousand dollars for the roses given to the teachers. In total, the value of the 537 swag bags amassed to more than $100,000.
The philanthropy of Martino and his beauty brand continues to assist those in need amidst this pandemic by spearheading another fundraising event entitled, "Passover with a Purpose." Through the joint efforts of the community, it raised over $42,000 to purchase an ambulance in Israel for United Hatzalah.
Martino by Martino Cartier is not your ordinary hair brand. Driven by charity, it will continuously be geared for generosity, from product development to giving back. With every purchase of a Martino by Martino Cartier product, a percentage of profits is donated back to Wigs & Wishes.
Currently, Martino engages in speaking opportunities for thousands of people by sharing his story and success. He perseveres even when his salons are closed during this pandemic.
